Course summary

The BA Hons in Primary Education with QTS is a school-based, three-year undergraduate course leading to Qualified Teacher Status.

WHO IT IS RELEVANT FOR:
Anyone who wants to be a primary school teacher and has A Levels or equivalent (equal to 112 UCAS tariff points)

DURATION OF COURSE:
This course is full time for three years. Starting September 2026. Qualified Teacher Status is awarded at the end of the three years as well.

COURSE DELIVERY

  • Trainees will be placed in a host school for two days a week.

  • One and a half days a week will be Directed Study at Two Mile Ash Initial Teacher Training Partnership based at St Mary & ST Giles School, Stony Stratford/Galley Hill, Milton Keynes.

  • One and a half days a week will be set aside for self-directed study time and enrichment activities.

  • Trainees will participate in a range of training that focuses on developing a reflective and critical evaluation of research, policy and practice to ensure their pedagogical knowledge reflects current thinking.

  • Trainees will be based in a school for the duration of a year, each year the school that they are based in will change so trainees get a full and rounded experience of working within different schools.

  • TMAITTP is able to offer a more personalised approach to your degree and journey to achieving QTS.

  • TMA ITTP is the most established Primary Teacher Training Provider in Milton Keynes, experienced in supporting trainees to become Outstanding Teachers though our PGCE route.

  • A large and supportive partnership of schools that allows us to find the right host school to support each trainee.

  • Trainees are able to acess resources at both Two Mile Ash Initial Teacher Training Partnership and Birmingham City University

  • Whilst Birmingham City University accredit and award the degree, students will be based in Milton Keynes.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

International applicants

If you wish to apply to us for teacher training and your secondary school qualifications (ie. your GCSE and A-level equivalents) were obtained overseas, you will need to apply for a statement of comparability from UK NARIC and submit this with your application, along with photocopies of your certificates.

Once you have filled in the online application form you will need to supply us with an individual statement from NARIC addressed to you personally. A general comparability printed off the internet is not sufficient.
