Public Health and Health Promotion (Taught)

MSc Public Health and Health Promotion (PHHP) is a long-established course designed to meet the varied forms of public health practice. Your studies will integrate public health theory and practice, with a strong focus on health promotion, to provide significant contributions to the public health service throughout Wales, the UK and internationally.

Studying alongside students from a range of industries and professions, you will develop an understanding of the multidimensional nature of public health, considering both the traditional medical perspective and wider socio-economic determinants of health.

Our course content is informed by regional, national and global policy, providing relevant learning outcomes for both home and international students, and all teaching is underpinned by the evidence base for public health practice to build a course where students develop the skills and knowledge required to work within a national and global health arena.

Based in our School of Health and Social Care, you will benefit from a diverse teaching and research environment, with many opportunities to make connections with students from a range of disciplines and nationalities. The MSc and PGDip Public Health and Health Promotion (PHHP) is available full-time or part-time and is situated in the School of Health and Social Care in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science (FMHLS). This programme combines theory-based learning with practical experince and is delivered on Singleton Campus.

According to the most recent Research Excellence Framework, 75% of research carried out at the School of Health and Social Care is 3* and therefore considerable in terms of reach and significance. Our focus on research outputs has resulted in a 21% increase in world-leading research (REF2021). This research expertise and excellence feeds directly into our learning and teaching practise and your course content.

The course is mapped to the United Kingdom Public Health Register (UKPHR) practitioner Competencies, New Standards December 2018 and can form part of the portfolio application process for practitioner/specialist registration with the UKPHR.
