Course summary

The Foundation Degree in Psychology and Counselling (Levels 4–5) provides a strong academic and applied introduction to psychological science and counselling practice. Designed to align with British Psychological Society undergraduate standards, the programme covers core areas including biological, cognitive, developmental and social psychology, individual differences, and research methods.

Students can follow a Psychology or Counselling pathway, developing theoretical knowledge alongside reflective, ethical and applied skills through case-based learning and simulated practice. There are no mandatory placements, making the course accessible while still preparing students for professional and academic progression.

Applicants are normally expected to hold English at Level 2 or above, with relevant Level 3 study or experience advantageous; however, applications from those with appropriate professional or voluntary experience are warmly welcomed. The course begins in September 2026 and provides a clear progression route to Level 6 study and completion of a full undergraduate degree.
