Summary:
Creative computing is where ideas take shape through technology. It brings together art, design and digital innovation to create experiences that engage with the world around us.
On this course, you will design and build digital projects that connect with culture, society and the environment. You will explore how creativity and technology intersect, working across areas such as fabrication, textiles, coding and 3D printing.
You will develop skills in collaboration, design thinking and problem solving, using industry standard tools and approaches. Alongside this, you will consider the ethical and philosophical questions that shape digital innovation today.
As you progress, you will build a portfolio of work that prepares you for careers across the creative digital industries, from design and media to emerging technologies.

Work with a wide range of equipment, including virtual and augmented reality, robotics, and fabrication and construction tools.
Collaborate with research labs focused on social and collaborative computing, connecting your work to real world challenges.
Learn from guest speakers and take part in industry events and projects across Winchester School of Art.
Showcase your work in exhibitions and events, both in the UK and internationally.
Take part in optional study trips in the UK and abroad, visiting museums, galleries and industry events.

You will be taught by experts who take the time to know you as an individual. Through small group teaching and support from your personal tutor, you will build confidence in your ideas and your practice.

BSc Creative Computing is a three year full time course based at Winchester School of Art. You can choose to extend your degree with a year abroad or a year in industry.

Over the three years of this Creative Computing course, you will explore a broad range of creative digital industries building your strengths and skills in team production and design systems thinking.
Year 1: Creative Computing !: Introduction to Programming; Introduction to Digital Culture; Algorithmic Thinking & Methods; Pervasive Media Exploration
Year 2: Creative Computing II: Applied Programming; Creative Industries; Interactivity & Play; Collaborate
Year 3: Final Project; Experimental Practice & Research; Prototyping, Presentation & Evaluation; Professional Planning
You will also have opportunities to tailor your learning through student-selected year in employment or year abroad.

Distinction, Distinction, Merit in the BTEC National Extended Diploma.
60 credits with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 of which 18 credits must be at Distinction and 27 credits at Merit.
We normally consider applicants who offer at least 1 Advanced Higher. Applicants presenting with only Highers will be considered on a case by case basis. Where Highers are taken over two years it might be expected that higher grades are achieved, particularly in any specific subjects required. For example, S5 – S6 (2 years): AABBB (A in specific subject) or S6 (1 year): ABBBB (A in specific subject).
Unless a more advanced level (Higher or Advanced Higher) is specified in the stated entry requirements, all applicants will be required to have achieved a pass in Mathematics and English at Standard Grade, Grade 3 or National 5, Grade C, the equivalent of GCSE Grade C/ Grade 4"

Offers will be based on exams being taken at the end of S6. Subjects taken and qualifications achieved in S5 will be reviewed. Careful consideration will be given to an individual’s academic achievement, taking in to account the context and circumstances of their pre-university education. Pass, with 28 points overall with 14 points at Higher Level.
Applications where Higher Level subjects have been studied without the full Diploma, will also be considered on a case by case basis.
International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP):
Offers will be made on the individual Diploma Course subject(s) and the career-related study qualification. The CP core will not form part of the offer. Where there is a subject pre-requisite(s), applicants will be required to study the subject(s) at Higher Level in the Diploma course subject and/or take a specified unit in the career-related study qualification. Applicants may also be asked to achieve a specific grade in those elements.

Applicants must hold GCSE English language (or GCSE English) (minimum grade 4/C) and mathematics (minimum grade 4/C)
In addition to those qualifications listed, we also accept a pass in an Art & Design foundation programme.
We welcome applicants with other qualifications eg. European Baccalaureate. You will be expected to attain an A level equivalent standard.
The University of Southampton requires all applicants to achieve at least a Grade 4 in English and Mathematics GCSEs (taken in England) or a Grade C in both subjects (where taken in Northern Ireland or Wales). Some degree subjects stipulate specific additional GCSE minimum grades, which will be specified as part of the individual degree programme entry requirements.
