About this course
Become a physiotherapist and change lives with BSc Physiotherapy at the University of Southampton, a course ranked 2nd in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2025).

On your three-year Physiotherapy degree you'll learn how to become a physiotherapist who can manage complex cases, and help people with many healthcare issues. You'll discover how to treat mobility problems caused by illness, injury, and ageing and learn how to improve people's physical activity and their quality of life in our bespoke skills and simulation facilities and on a broad range of placements throughout your degree.

Key features of the course:

  • Complete over 1,000 hours of clinical placements as you train to be a physiotherapist, in settings ranging from community clinics to large hospitals. These will help you link theory with practice and will cover the core disciplines: musculoskeletal, neurology, cardiorespiratory, special client groups

  • Join a supportive community of students and academic staff, who are shaping the future of the profession and who are there for you at every stage of your journey from student to Physiotherapist

  • Develop skills that will prepare you for modern practice that focuses on the patient, which include: communication, decision-making, team-working abilities, management, and leadership

  • Study in our purpose-built facilities, which include a simulated hospital wards, clinical skills suites, and our purpose-built replica flat

  • Graduate you’ll be eligible to register as a physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Student support
You'll be supported from day one, both during your time studying on campus and during your placements, by your personal support network of academics: your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), a senior tutor, and by your fellow students via initiatives like the Schwartz Rounds designed to support health-care staff to deliver compassionate care by helping them to reflect on their work in groups of peers.

This programme gives you all the knowledge and skills to start your career along with eligibility to register with the Health and Care Professions Council as Physiotherapist.

The NHS Learning Support Fund may assist your journey to becoming a registered healthcare professional. If you're a UK applicant you could be eligible for £5,000 per academic year, depending on your programme of study.
