Want plenty of opportunities to apply your practical creative skills? If you’re interested in theatre craft and creative writing and would like to combine theory with practice, then this course is for you.

You'll explore the critical and creative contexts for these complementary subjects, making use of placements, workshops and opportunities to share your work with different audiences.

Unlock your creative potential at Birmingham. With the support of our expert lecturers, you'll dive into a selection of genres across theatre and creative writing - from immersive and participatory performance to Victorian drama, nonfiction writing, poetry and writing for media. Graduate with a detailed awareness of and sought-after experience making theatre and writing creatively - think journalism, publishing, arts management, performing and teaching.

We prefer applications from students offering at least one A level from our list of preferred subjects: English Language, English Literature English Language and Literature, Modern Language, History, Law, Religious Studies, Media Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM

BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM, plus a B at A-level in the required subject/s mentioned above. BTEC Diploma: DD, plus a B at A-level in the required subject/s mentioned above. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma: D, plus AB at A-level, including the required subject/s mentioned above. Please note: we can only accept BTEC qualifications in Performing Arts, Performing Arts (Acting), Performing Arts: Dance, Performing Arts: Musical Theatre, Production Arts, Media, Audio/Visual Production, Art and Design, Creative Media Production and Creative Digital Media

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

6,6,5 in Higher Level subjects. We prefer applications from students offering at least one Higher Level from our list of preferred subjects: English Language, English Literature English Language and Literature, Modern Language, History, Law, Religious Studies, Media Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
