Our BCS-accredited Computer Science degree will equip you with practical and theoretical computer science skills that are highly sought-after across a range of industries.

Computer Science graduates with current, industry-relevant skills are in high demand across a wide range of industries. Our BSc in Computer Science equips you with the practical and theoretical skills needed to pursue the challenging and rewarding careers available in the computing field.

This British Computer Society (BCS)-accredited course provides a strong foundation in key areas of computer science. Core modules cover topics such as logic, programming and software engineering. A range of optional modules spanning topics like robotics and network security, allows you to tailor your studies to your strengths, interests, and career goals. In your final year, you will complete an individual project under the supervision of an academic member of staff.

You also have the option to enhance your degree by taking a placement year, gaining valuable professional experience that can give you a competitive edge in the graduate job market.

What's the difference between MSci and BSc?

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree will provide a thorough grounding in the critical areas of the subject and enable you to develop skills and knowledge sought by employers in diverse industries. The Masters in Science (MSci) degree also provides an ideal preparation for research and development work in industry or for a PhD and is designed to create leaders in the subject area by giving in-depth experience of cutting-edge research.

Assessment method

Depending on the nature of the material, some modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination (for example 25% coursework and 75% examination), whilst other modules are assessed by 100% coursework or 100% by examination.

Coursework is based on a variety of tasks including programming, individual reports, projects, laboratory work, contribution in tutorials, group work and presentations.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

We consider applicants offering Pre-U Principal Subjects or a combination of the Pre-U and A levels, provided a minimum of three subjects overall are taken. While we would consider this as evidence of motivation to study a specific subject in more depth, we do not generally include it as part of our offer conditions. Applicants are usually selected solely on the basis of their UCAS application, but in exceptional cases, an interview may be required. If applicants are made an offer of a place, they will be invited to visit the department giving them the opportunity to meet staff and students, see the facilities and get an insight into what it is like to be a student at Loughborough.
