Why Dental Hygiene BSc(Hons)
Train to become a confident, skilled dental hygienist on this exciting new degree programme. On successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
Dental hygienists play a vital role in preventing and treating gum disease, promoting oral health, and supporting patients as part of a multidisciplinary dental team. This rewarding career combines hands-on clinical practice with patient care and health education.

In Year 1, you’ll build strong foundations in oral anatomy, physiology, oral health promotion, professionalism and evidence-based practice, while developing practical skills in simulated clinical settings.
Year 2 focuses on advancing your clinical knowledge and treatment skills, including periodontal care, dental radiography and treatment planning, with increasing patient contact in clinical settings.
In your final year, you’ll refine advanced clinical and leadership skills through external placements, managing more complex patient cases and completing a dissertation to prepare for professional practice.
