Course summary
Get an insight into the minds of the great thinkers, where the works of Newton and Einstein stand alongside those of Plato and Kant.
Critically evaluate scientific methods and see physics laid bare. Study topics from plasma to paradox and discover fundamental truths about the nature of the Universe. You'll study the foundations of physics, enhanced by the grand theories of metaphysics, ethics and logic. You'll learn to analyse real-life problems and communicate complex ideas and arguments - key skills for your onward career. You'll work with world-renowned physicists and philosophers, probing the nature of existence and pushing the boundaries of research.

A level - AAB
Essential Subjects:
Physics and Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade A are essential.
Information: Applicants taking Science A Levels that include a practical component will be required to pass.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
DDM + A at A Level Mathematics.
We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.
A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. A Level in Physics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is also essential, but we may consider relevant units in your BTEC as A Level Physics equivalent.
Access to HE Diploma - D: 36 credits M: 9 credits
We will consider the Access to Higher Education Diploma. The syllabus must contain a significant portion of Mathematics and Physics that is considered equivalent to A Level standard. Applications will be considered on an individual basis - please contact the Department before you apply.

With 6 in Higher Level Physics and Mathematics.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - B
We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.
Extended Project
We recognise the value of this qualification although it will not be included as a condition of entry. It may be taken in to consideration when you receive your results.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, M2
Cambridge Pre-U Physics and Mathematics at grade D3 are essential.
OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma
DDM + A at A Level Mathematics.
We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.
A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. A Level in Physics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is also essential, but we may consider relevant units in your OCR as A Level Physics equivalent.
