Course summary

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our courses up to date and aligned with current industry standards, this programme has been updated from a Higher National Certificate (HNC) to a Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) for students starting from September 2026.
If you are currently enrolled on the HNC programme, this change will not affect your studies, and you will still receive an HNC qualification upon successful completion of the course.
Build your expertise
We have a long history of educating professionals for the building-related industries. With roots in the London Council School of Building (1904) and the Brixton School of Building (1940), we’ve been offered training in construction for over 100 years.

CertHE courses are industry recognised and are well established in Built Environment subjects. The CertHE Construction is mapped to our degree courses allowing for seamless transition with advanced entry onto a number of our BSc courses. You can tailor this course into three areas, construction management, surveying, and architectural technology disciplines.

Modules

Building services and environmental science
Construction technology and materials
Construction technology and structures
Legal and economic context
Construction practice

Plus one option from:

Surveying and setting out
