Course summary

BSc (Hons) Applied Computing Technologies is a top-up degree that provides advanced knowledge in a broad range of computing subjects including networking, security and cloud computing. This is a 1 year course for students who have completed one of our FdEng Software Engineering, FdSc Cyber Security or FdSc Computer Technology courses (or other relevant level 5 qualification such as a HND). There is a strong focus on applied research and project-related skills as well as analysis of new and emerging technologies.

This course utilises links with local employers, giving you the opportunity to gain valuable working experience and maximise your future career prospects. The vocational nature of the course encourages you to seek relevant employment alongside taught hours so you can apply the theory to reality. Employers are invited in to speak to students about work opportunities for future careers, coupled with various enhancement trips and visits to workplaces and careers fairs, you're sure to graduate with employability skills. Students are encouraged to aim their final year major project at real world problems, gaining an understanding of the IT working world. Graduate jobs within the field of computing often include roles such as software development coordinators, web content managers; web designers and IT support technicians.

For entry to our top-up degrees, candidates must be holders of a relevant foundation degree, HND or equivalent Level 5 qualification.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE English and Maths are also required at grade 4/C or above. Contact us for more information if you do not have these, or if you have a level 2 equivalent qualification.
