Can you push the boundaries of animation? On this BA (Hons) Animation course, you will develop creative techniques through a range of digital mediums including film, television, games, and online platforms. Utilising the skills of storytelling and forming narratives, you will develop your artistic communication skills and a strong rationale for your ideas. With opportunities for mentorships with top industry players, allow our experts to sharpen your natural talent and turn your passion into a profession.
Through your studies, you will study key animation fundamental skills, including timing, posing, movement and behaviour through research and reference. Students will be encouraged to experiment and to improvise with their ideas to bring a distinctive touch and to take onus of their work. You will be supported and given insights into the animation industry through guest speakers, set tasks by practitioners and receive feedback directly on your work.
The modules on this course are designed to build a sound understanding of the animation pipeline and workflows and give you the professional knowledge and tools you need to succeed. With collaboration at the heart of what we do, you will work and learn alongside other courses such as Games Design, Illustration, Music and Sound Design to enrich your student experience, bringing your specialist animation skills on joint projects with students across various disciplines. You will also hone your skills independently, advancing yourself, looking at performance through acting workshops, dialogue, and emotions, together with new skills in rigging and preparing for industry.
With many opportunities to learn and work with industry professionals, engaging on live briefs, securing work-based learning opportunities, attending industry led masterclasses and workshops, your tutors will prepare you with all you’ll need to take on the world of animation, help you to understand adapt to new opportunities and the challenges of today's world of work.

You'll explore animation fundamentals, body mechanics, acting performance, visual narrative and rigging. You’ll engage with the animation industry and collaborate with different disciplines to explore a range of observational and contextual subject-related areas. You will be continually evaluated based on project presentations, written work, essays, experimentation and research evidence, blogs, and reports. This doesn't mean our standards are lower, in fact the average UCAS tariff of our students is higher than some other universities in London, so you'll be joining a diverse community of creatives.
We still think exams are important and look forward to hearing about your successes in the summer, but we place more importance on the work you will share with us as part of our interview and/or portfolio process.
