Mathematics underpins much of the modern world and is fundamental to science, technology, business and finance. In the BSc Applied Mathematics programme you will study essential mathematical topics as well as a range of applications. The programme emphasises versatile mathematical modelling techniques and offers a wide selection of optional modules, allowing you to follow your individual interests and career plans.
Through studying mathematics, you will acquire highly flexible skills that will last a lifetime, including strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills and an appreciation of the importance of logical reasoning. You will also develop computational proficiency and learn how mathematical modelling can be used to analyse real-world problems. These skills are vital to many industries and are highly sought-after by employers.
In this three-year BSc you will gain a sound knowledge of the most important areas of applied mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and statistics and probability. The skills you will gain throughout the course are highly attractive to employers and our graduates are in high demand in many industries, including finance, technology, engineering, healthcare, data science, and more.
Delivered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, students are taught in a friendly, supportive environment by highly qualified staff, who have first-class reputations in teaching and research.
This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). You can choose either the China Studies Track, where you will take courses from the China Studies Degree, the Creative Track, or the Entrepreneurship Track . XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.

Including A level Mathematics at grade A
Applicants must have studied Mathematics at Level 3 within 2 years of the start date of their course.
For applicants from England: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology or Physics), a pass in the science practical of each subject will be required.

Science T Level considered with A level Mathematics. Typical offer would be Distinction overall, with a grade B in the Core Component and a Distinction in the Specialism Component.
Pass Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject with 45 Level 3 credits, with 33 at Distinction (including 15 credits in Mathematics) and 12 at Merit.
GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.
Including grade A in Mathematics
Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and 3 A levels and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be ABB or ABC plus A in the EPQ, including grade A in Mathematics.
32 points overall with no score less than 4 including 6 in HL Mathematics, or pass the IB Diploma plus 6,5,5 in three HL subjects (including 6 in HL Mathematics).
B in the Welsh Baccalaureate, plus AB at A level (including grade A in Mathematics).

If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2027, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.
Tuition fees are subject to increase each year, subject to the government’s regulated fee limits. For UK students applying for 2027 entry the Tuition Fee is £10,050.
