The BA (Hons) Education in Practice (Top up) is designed for practitioners working in education settings who wish to complete a full honours degree while remaining in employment.
Building on prior study and professional experience, the course supports students in critically exploring teaching, learning, and inclusion within formal educational settings such as Primary, FE and HE. It encourages reflective, research informed practice and supports professional development for those working as Teaching Assistants and education support staff.

Students combine taught sessions with ongoing work or placement in an educational setting.
Practice based learning and placements
Students must complete a minimum of 12 hours per week in a suitable education setting:
• Most students will use their existing role in a school or educational environment
• Applicants not currently employed will be supported to find an appropriate placement
• Practice experience underpins assignments and the final independent project

At Level 6, students develop advanced academic and professional skills through the study of:
• Education theory, policy and contemporary practice
• Inclusion, equality and supporting diverse learners
• Professional roles, collaboration and leadership in education
• Research methods and enquiry into practice
• An independent final year research project or dissertation
Teaching, learning and assessment
Learning is delivered through:
• Seminars and workshops
• Reflective and collaborative learning
• Practice based tasks
• Independent research with tutor support
Assessment includes written assignments, presentations, reflective work and a final project.
Entry requirements
Applicants should normally have:
• A relevant Foundation Degree (FdA) in Education or Education in Practice
• A minimum of 12 hours per week in an appropriate education setting
• Employer or placement support for work based learning
Applicants without current employment will be supported to access a suitable placement.

Applicants must normally meet the following criteria:
• Completion of a relevant Level 5 qualification, such as:
• A Foundation Degree (FdA) in a related subject (e.g. Education in Practice, Early Childhood Education in Practice), or
• A Higher Education Diploma or equivalent qualification at Level 5
Applications from other awarding institutions are accepted where equivalency can be demonstrated
Current employment or voluntary placement in an appropriate setting for a minimum of two days per week (normally 12 hours):
• Early years settings for Early Childhood Education in Practice
• Schools or other education settings for Education in Practice
This work based requirement is integral to the programme design
• Ability to study at honours (Level 6) standard, evidenced through prior academic performance and/or professional experience
