This course is designed for musicians who want to perform and better understand the technical environment within which commercial music takes place. You will develop a wide range of disciplines through performance, composition, technology, media production and musicology. You will also develop an in-depth appreciation of the increasing significance of popular music in economic and professional terms.
The music industry is an important element of the creative industries sector and a significant contributor to the UK and global economy. In recent years, with the growth of new digital distribution models and the proliferation of live music events, the music industry has evolved significantly presenting new and exciting ways of music making and delivery. This course is accredited by Joint Audio Media Education Support (JAMES), which means it meets the highest professional standards set by industry.
This course will support you to be multi-skilled, adaptable and adept at collaboration across different disciplines and media within the music industry and industry sub-sectors such as film, television, computer games and advertising. You will have opportunities to collaborate with students from other courses such as BA (Hons) Film and High-End Television Production and BA (Hons) Animation as you develop advanced digital skills for the creation of album artwork, music promos, brand development, etc., whilst also gaining vital networking and entrepreneurial skills for a successful career in the music industry.

We encourage you to outline all your qualifications and achievements in your application to provide us a full picture. Your offer will typically be based on your predicted and/or achieved grades from full level 3 qualifications or above e.g. A levels, BTEC Ext Diploma, Access to HE, etc.
Any subject specifics are outlined below in the A-levels section, and these specifics are applicable across all equivalent qualifications.
A strong application/performance and appropriate experience will be taken into account where typical criteria is not met.
Pass Access to HE Diploma with 60 credits with 45 at Level 3
GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/Grade C (or above) or equivalent qualification
IELTS overall score at a minimum of 6.0; with at least IELTS 5.5 in each band (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) or another Secure English Language Test(SELT)at CEFR level B2 or above
We have excluded the Grades on Entry data for this course. We may operate some flexibility with entry grades to support widening participation, though most of the students that enrol on this course achieve the published entry tariff or above. Applicants who achieve grades below the published tariff may be offered an alternative course or a 4-year route if there is one available.
