Our CISI-recognised BSc (Hons) Finance and Investment Management course lays the foundations for a range of rewarding careers in this fascinating industry.

The core focus of our teaching is about preparing you for employment. Key modules include Careers in Accounting, Economics and Finance, and Professional Practice – all designed to build practical knowledge of working in the industry. And you won’t just be learning about investing in the classroom. You’ll also be putting your skills into practice in our on-site trading room, complete with industry-standard professional Bloomberg terminals that reflect live, real-life market developments. Before your final year, you can choose to deepen your understanding even further through a year-long work placement – gaining valuable hands on experience within financial organisations including the Royal Bank of Scotland or the Bank of England.

Recent graduates are now working for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Bloomberg, Deloitte and Brewin Dolphin.

The BSc Finance and Investment Management programme has got an educational partnership with the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI). This offers students an opportunity to apply for discounted CISI membership and discounted exam fees and materials. The programme's curriculum is mapped to two CISI exams - Introduction to Securities and Investments and Risk in Financial Services.

This course is covered by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for Newcastle Business School.

Extended Degree
This extended degree provides an alternative route to higher education and supports those who don’t meet the standard entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. It includes a foundation year which will provide you with an understanding of the wider financial world, applying this knowledge to real world examples.

What will I learn in my Foundation Year?
Over the course of your foundation year, you will be challenged to analyse and interpret financial data, tackle real life organisational issues and build the fundamental skills required in industry. You will conduct a collaborative research project to enhance your understanding further of the contemporary issues in accounting, finance and economics. This year develops the academic skills and business awareness to begin applying basic business principles to solve real world problems.

The foundation year of the course delivered at level 3 which develops your ability to study in Higher Education is not accredited. Subsequent levels and years are accredited and deliver the knowledge, competencies, and skills required to meet the specific course accreditation requirements that relate to the approved accredited award title.
