Course summary

The three-year undergraduate BSc in Criminology and Law is a joint programme run by the School of Policy and Global Affairs (SPGA) and The City Law School. As such, it harnesses the reputation of The City Law School, notable for its high level of scholarship and academic rigour with the research excellence of the Department of Sociology and Criminology.

The BSc in Criminology and Law is uniquely positioned to provide you with a socio-legal degree that encompasses the already excellent portfolio of modules on offer in both Schools, including valuable methodological training. This programme is therefore particularly relevant for those students who are interested in pursuing careers in legal and criminal justice/social policy, research and socio-legal work.

Assessment method

Your modules will be assessed by a variety of assessment methods, to promote inclusivity. Most modules will be assessed by two or more summative assessments. These will include (but are not limited to):

  • end of term examination

  • coursework

  • multiple choice question tests

  • reflective logs/blogs

  • project papers, posters and reports

  • skeleton legal arguments

  • presentations (including mooting, giving oral legal advice or debates)

  • online discussions.

A minimum of grade 4/C in each of GCSE mathematics and English language is required.
