Course modules

Year 1
Fundamentals of computer studies – Explore the maths behind computing hardware and develop your professional skills, preparing you for a career in the field. Introduction to software development – How to model software problems and develop solutions using a high-level programming language. Engineering mathematics – Solve real-world engineering problems using different mathematical approaches. Foundations of electronic systems and computer networks – An introduction to circuits, electronic components, signals, systems, data communications and computer networking.

Year 2
Circuit analysis and signal processing – Learn about and practise circuit analysis and system modelling software. DSP and embedded systems development – Explore digital signal processing (DSP), microprocessor and embedded system structures, and gain hands-on skills in embedded programming. Analogue and digital electronics – Gain hands-on experience of advanced tools such as bipolar junction transistors, diode circuits and field effect transistors. Digital communications and software engineering – Examine digital communications and future broadband technologies, applying strategies to mitigate security risks.

Year 3
Control, energy and wireless sensor networks – Master advanced concepts in automatic control, wireless sensor networks and energy harvesting, proposing solutions to complex problems. Research methodologies and emerging technologies – Plan your Honours project around current or emerging technologies, using research to back up your proposal. Social and professional project management – Gain valuable transferable skills in project management, vital to your professional development. Undergraduate project – Work independently to develop and complete a major project on a topic of your choice.
