The BSc Psychology degree is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is designed to develop and shape your understanding of the mind and human behaviour. Our ethos is to teach in a way which enables you to develop conceptual and theoretical knowledge to solve problems in real-world scenarios. Small group teaching in seminars allows for a good staff/student ratio and a more personalised and interactive learning experience.
Our Psychology degree will give you a broad foundation in psychology and provide you with a solid platform for a varied number of career opportunities, while allowing you to tailor the course to suit your own interests. The course is built around essential core topics in psychology, which serve as the basis for the varied and specialised optional modules we offer in the second and third year. This flexible format empowers you to shape your course to strengthen your own personal career aspirations.
Our optional modules include topics such as the psychology of humour, drugs and behaviour, psychology of language, psychology of ageing, clinical psychology and forensic psychology, plus a work placement module to enable you to gain valuable experience of working in industry.
Our modules are developed and taught by research-active lecturers and experts in their field, so you will benefit from the very latest information and developments in the subject, enabling you to critically engage with key issues, while exploring more specialised topics in psychology. Their expertise also provides excellent opportunities for your own final year research project.
You can practise your research skills using specialised equipment and software throughout your degree, and our laboratories and research spaces provide you with an array of facilities and equipment to explore. Our facilities include eye-tracking software, EEG (electroencephalography), sound-attenuated chamber, a driving simulator, counselling rooms and a child development laboratory.
You can also apply to spend all or part of your second year studying psychology overseas at one of our partner universities.
We believe potential is unlocked when people are given the right opportunities. That’s why we welcome students from all backgrounds into a friendly, inclusive, supportive environment where they can thrive. Our aim is to help every student grow into a confident, resilient individual, ready to succeed in their future careers or further study.
A Psychology degree from Aberystwyth University will open up a variety of careers for you.
