Course summary
Our BA (Hons) Interior Design degree allows you to study design in all its forms - architectural, commercial and retail, residential, furniture, set and exhibition design. You'll get the foundational interior design education and creative expertise which is vital for a thriving career in interior design. Complemented by a robust network of industry contacts, you'll be part of a supportive learning environment that ensures you graduate with the interior design skills needed for a successful future.
Top-Rated Learning Opportunities: 95 per cent of students surveyed on this course responded positively to questions on “Learning Resources” in the 2025 National Student Survey. It also received the Interior Educators Award for Collaborative Practice, July 2022, beating 47 other UK and Irish interior design courses.
Comprehensive Skill Development: Develop a diverse skill set in drawing, photography, model-making and spatial analysis. Learn specialist skills: observational and spatial drawing, computer drawing, model-making and material investigations. Assessment method
We assess all modules at the end of the academic year. Although each module is assessed separately against specific criteria, the assessed work will form part of an overall academic 'portfolio'.
Design studio work is assessed within a design portfolio and supporting studies are normally assessed in the form of a bound report or within the portfolio. We assess online and multi-media submissions appropriately. There are no closed-book examinations.
Feedback is provided within 15 working days in line with UEL's assessment and feedback policy.

- Applicants are required to attend an interview for discussion of their portfolio of work.
- Portfolio
- The portfolio is a very important part of the application process. It should reflect broad examples of your work. This will be used as evidence of your creative ability and potential. Your portfolio may include paintings, drawings, sketches, a personal sketchbook, design and photographic work, 3D-modelling, work in progress, etc. It should exhibit an understanding of spatial awareness. We like to see the creative and planning processes that have contributed to your work, not just the final pieces. We also like to see some work that reflects your own personal interests, i.e. work that you might have undertaken in your own time. We want to see your passion for your work and you’re expected to present the portfolio in a positive and interesting manner. You will be expected to display care and thought in the way that your portfolio is presented; the organisation is no less important than the content.
