What you’ll learn
Delivered over three taught terms through a blend of lectures and seminars, this MA includes a series of core modules that will help you to establish a strong academic foundation in public archaeology. You’ll be introduced to key theories, concepts and debates, helping you to develop the critical thinking and analytic skills required at post-graduate level.
In particular, the Advanced Research Skills module introduces you to a range tools and methods, with opportunities to collaborate with students from our other History and Archaeology postgraduate pathways. This approach helps to broaden your perspective and strengthen your research capabilities.
The final term is dedicated entirely to your dissertation, an extended independent research project on a historical, archaeological, museum, or heritage-related topic of your choice. With guidance from experienced academic supervisors, this project allows you to explore an area you’re passionate about while building essential skills for future study or employment.

You’ll study in-person at our Exton Park campus, located just a short walk from the historic city centre of Chester. Surrounded by a wealth of Roman and medieval archaeology, the city provides an inspiring and immersive backdrop for your academic experience. Your future in public archaeology
