The Rural Land & Business Management accelerated degree offers routes to rewarding careers within rural business, land management, consultancy and valuation within the rural sector. This University of Greenwich validated degree has been reviewed by RICS and is in the process of gaining full RICS accreditation. The programme is fully endorsed by leading land agency firms including Batcheller Monkhouse, Savills, Knight Frank, BTF Partnership, Dalcour Maclaren, the National Trust and also the CAAV, amongst others.
The degree course offers an alternative pathway to becoming a rural chartered surveyor and agricultural valuer. It is structured to attract individuals committed to joining the profession, including those already working in the field. Its unique delivery over two years will allow you to work within a land agency and attend classes at the delivery site (Plumpton College) one week out of a month.

The degree is delivered in blocks and you can gain valuable work experience while studying. Many firms are currently looking for student interns with some paid positions available giving you the unique opportunity to train within the field. It will follow a block teaching model where students will attend campus one week in every four. The programme will draw on established practice in teaching professional skills, combining technical sessions focused on developing a sound theoretical grounding with practical exercises to enable learners to apply those skills effectively on behalf of clients. The content will reflect the demands and experiences of combining study with employment.
The programme aims to provide learners with:
A thorough knowledge and practical understanding of resource use and the industries key to the rural economy.
Strong technical skills in key disciplines, including valuation, law, finance, business appraisal and building construction.
Effective consultancy skills enabling them to identify and appraise issues on behalf of clients and deliver solutions to property and business challenges
The skills to work towards personal, academic and career targets including achieving full membership of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and CAAV (Central Association of Agricultural Valuers).

The programme has been designed to ensure a personalised learning experience for all students and strongly promotes equal opportunities. All learners will have access to regular and tailored tutorial support with the Programme Manager, allowing them to review their progress and identify targets to help ensure their success in the programme. In addition, various other tutorial support services are available at Plumpton College in areas such as Library Services, Student Support and the Higher Education (HE) Office.
Some of the planned assessment for the programme has been designed to enable students to select their own case studies and examples, providing them with flexibility and an opportunity to pursue their own interests in key subject areas.

We consider a wide range of Level 3 equivalent qualifications in related subjects such as (but not limited to) Agriculture, Countryside, Biology, Chemistry, Horticulture, Business Management, Geography, and Environmental Sciences. (If you're unsure, please get in touch).
Level 3 qualifications considered includes T-levels, A-levels and BTEC Extended Diplomas (L3), Irish Highers, Scottish Highers, as well as Access to HE qualifications.
In addition to the above Level 3 qualifications, candidates must have at least five GCSEs at grade 4 (or above) and this must include English Language (Grade 4 or above) and Maths (Grade 4 or above).
Mature students with relevant industrial experience, but without the minimum academic qualifications, may be eligible for entry. This will be assessed at interview using a portfolio evidence and employer references. We welcome enquiries from career changers and ex-military personnel.
