The BA Digital Media, Culture and Chinese combined degree at SOAS University of London offers an interdisciplinary programme that bridges the study of digital culture, creative expression, and Chinese language and culture. This degree equips students with the critical, analytical, and practical skills needed to engage with the evolving global digital and cultural landscapes, particularly in the context of China and the broader Chinese-speaking world.
In the Digital Media component, students explore the transformative role of digital technologies in communication, culture, and creativity. Core topics include digital storytelling, content creation, social media dynamics, and the influence of digital platforms on identity and representation. Through hands-on modules in media production and digital design, students gain practical skills in creating engaging digital content, coupled with a critical understanding of how digital media shapes cultural and social experiences globally.
The Chinese Studies component provides students with in-depth knowledge of the Chinese language, culture, and society. Language training develops fluency in Mandarin, focusing on speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. This is complemented by courses on Chinese history, literature, cinema, and contemporary culture, offering insights into China's rich heritage and modern transformations. Students also examine China’s role in global affairs and the influence of Chinese culture on the international stage.
By integrating these disciplines, the BA Digital Media, Culture and Chinese programme provides a unique combination of technical, linguistic, and cultural expertise. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in digital media, cultural consultancy, international relations, and roles requiring Chinese language proficiency and cultural insight, positioning them as valuable contributors to the increasingly interconnected global digital and cultural sectors.
