Course summary

The BSc Business Management and Marketing programme combines a broad foundation in business and management with specialist knowledge in marketing, branding and customer engagement.

The programme is designed to develop graduates who understand how organisations operate in competitive and customer-driven environments. Students will explore core areas of business including strategy, operations and organisational behaviour, alongside marketing disciplines such as consumer behaviour, digital marketing, brand management and market research.

A key feature of the programme is its focus on the relationship between business strategy and customer value. Students will examine how organisations create, communicate and deliver value to customers, developing an understanding of both traditional and digital marketing approaches.

Through engagement with real-world business challenges, students will develop creative, analytical and strategic skills. The programme prepares graduates for careers in marketing, communications, business development and a wide range of customer-focused roles, as well as for further postgraduate study.

Graduates of the BSc Business Management and Marketing programme will develop a strong understanding of how organisations operate in competitive, customer-focused environments, alongside specialist marketing knowledge and skills.

The combination of strategic business insight and marketing capability equips graduates for a wide range of roles across sectors, particularly in areas that require an understanding of markets, customers and organisational performance.

Typical graduate roles may include marketing executive, digital marketing specialist, brand or product manager, market research analyst and roles in business development, communications and customer engagement. Graduates may also progress to postgraduate study in marketing, business management or related disciplines.

Assessment method

Teaching, learning and assessment are designed to support the development of both business management capability and marketing expertise.

Students learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and digital learning activities, supported by the University’s virtual learning environment. Teaching approaches emphasise interactive and applied learning, including case studies, simulations and project-based activities that reflect contemporary marketing practice.

Marketing-focused modules develop skills in areas such as campaign design, consumer insight, digital marketing and brand strategy, while business modules provide a broader understanding of organisational and strategic contexts. Students are encouraged to develop creativity alongside analytical and critical thinking skills.

Assessment is varied and aligned to learning outcomes, enabling students to demonstrate both conceptual understanding and practical application. Methods may include coursework, marketing plans, campaign proposals, presentations, group projects and, where appropriate, examinations.

Formative assessment and feedback are embedded throughout the programme to support student development. Assessment tasks are designed to reflect real-world marketing activities, such as analysing markets, developing strategies and communicating ideas effectively to different audiences.
