Shortlisted candidates must attend an interview.

Applicants must hold the following Level 2 qualifications:

English Language:

GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or above
OR a Pass in Level 2 Functional Skills English
OR a Pass in an approved equivalency test (please contact Admissions for a list of approved test providers)

Mathematics:

GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4 or above
OR a Pass in Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics
OR a Pass in an approved equivalency test (please contact Admissions for a list of approved test providers)

Science:

We accept grade C/4 or above in any of the following GCSE subjects:

Science
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Additional Science
Applied Science

Alternatively, we accept:

A Pass in BTEC Level 2 Science or Applied Science
OR a Pass in an approved equivalency test (please contact Admissions for a list of approved test providers)

Candidates studying the following Level 3 qualifications are only required to demonstrate Level 2 qualifications in English Language and Mathematics. Level 2 Science qualification is not required:

a Science-based Access to HE Diploma

BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or Applied Science

NFCE CACHE Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

Your personal statement is expected to demonstrate an insight into your chosen field of Nursing, including an understanding of care environments and current issues in contemporary nursing or health care. You should describe the concept of a professional attitude, effective communication skills, good time-management skills, and an awareness of your own strengths and weaknesses.   An awareness of the NMC Code and the vision for the training of the future nurse and how this can support the delivery of high quality person centred care should be included. You should convey your ability to work both independently and as part of a team and demonstrate motivation and a commitment to preparing to study as a nurse, demonstrating an ability to solve problems and to think creatively in conveying a capacity for leadership and how this is important in the nursing profession.

Previous experience in a health care setting is desirable, but not essential.

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate evidence of IT skills.

Applications are assessed on an individual basis, taking into account a range of factors beyond academic qualifications. These may include relevant achievements, life experience, and skills, as well as the personal statement and interview performance.

A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this programme. In addition, students who have resided outside the UK will be required to provide evidence of a satisfactory overseas police check. Instructions on how to complete these checks will be provided once you hold a firm offer for this course.

Satisfactory occupational health clearance is also required to participate in this course. Due to the nature of the environments in which you will be undertaking placements, Covid-19 vaccination may be required by placement providers and future employers.
