Course summary

Paramedics play a unique and vital role in healthcare, working in unpredictable pre-hospital and emergency settings where no two days are ever the same. It’s a career that offers variety, challenge, and the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives and in your local community.
Our BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree prepares you for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and equips you to deliver high-quality care across a range of settings. You’ll gain the clinical skills, knowledge, and confidence to assess, treat, and manage patients in pre-hospital and emergency care.
You’ll learn from a dedicated team and practise in specialist simulation facilities, including a simulated ambulance, paramedic training rooms, and mock patient residence. High-fidelity simulation events with other emergency services will help you develop teamwork and decision-making skills.
Placements with the ambulance service and in settings such as emergency departments, hospital theatres, and residential homes will further build your clinical expertise and compassionate care skills.
The NHS Learning Support Fund, offering at least £5,000 per year, is available to eligible students. For more information and details of eligibility, visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/lsf.

Assessment method

Formative assessment is an important feature within the programme and may include in‐class or online activities such as research diaries, assignments and tests. The programme ensures summative assessments are designed to provide a creative and balanced strategy throughout the programme. The summative assessments all relate to the working environment of a paramedic enabling you to take your assessed learning into the practice environment to optimise the provision of patient care.
