Course summary
On this Economics degree you'll gain insights into how economics improves our understanding of how the world functions, you will develop valuable analytical, numerical, data analysis and problem-solving skills. This helps you to understand how people, firms, institutions and governments make decisions, and the implications of such decisions on individuals, businesses and society.
Economics is more than a study of the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. It focuses on how people, businesses and governments interact with each other and their surroundings in the face of scarcity or adversity – how choices and decisions impact individuals and society. Governments use economic data to guide their response to pressing issues such as how to reduce public health costs. Businesses develop strategies on anything from pricing and advertising to investment in product development. For individuals, economics affects which house we can afford or how much we must save for retirement.

The widely transferrable analytical and problem-solving skills you gain, coupled with your understanding of individual, organisational and political behaviour, will be valuable in almost any career.

You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. General Studies and Key Skills not accepted.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DMM - DDD
We will also consider other BTEC qualifications in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.

Scottish Higher
Minimum of 5 Scottish Highers - some subject specific grades/Advanced Highers may be required.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Accepted.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.
Extended Project
Points can include a relevant Extended Project (EPQ) but must include a minimum 2 full A-levels, or equivalent. Please contact us for more information.

T Level qualifications are accepted on a case by case basis.
We allow you flexibility in meeting our entry requirements and accept a broad range of qualifications. We are happy to accept combinations of the qualifications listed above, as well as alternative Level 3 qualifications such as City & Guilds, Access and Cambridge Technical Diplomas. We also welcome applications from mature learners and/or those with other qualifications are considered on individual merit. Additional fee information
On 4 December 2024 the Welsh Government confirmed that the tuition fee cap (the maximum tuition fee that regulated providers can charge to certain students on full-time undergraduate courses) will increase to £9,535 per year, subject to changes in the regulations by the Welsh Government.
