Course summary

From business to technology, finance to IT, combining economic theory with advanced maths gives you so much scope in terms of career opportunities.

Mathematics is key to solving some of the biggest economic challenges around the globe.
The ongoing drive for economic efficiency – as well as the increasing importance of technology and big data – means that mathematics continues to have a significant impact on how the world works.
Delivered jointly by the School of Mathematics and the Leeds University Business School, this degree will equip you with an invaluable multidisciplinary skill set across both subjects in everything from econometrics and macroeconomics to probability and calculus.
This gives you the transferable skills to confidently provide crucial, expert insights for businesses everywhere.
Because these are core subjects highly sought after by many industries worldwide, our graduates' career options have taken them everywhere from BP and Amazon to Goldman Sachs, HSBC and the UK’s Government Actuary’s Department.

Student profile: Naomi Woerlen

''I personally quite enjoyed the fact that my course was joint honours as it provided the variety that I was looking for in my studies. It also ensured that my career options were kept slightly wider open than if I had taken the single honours route.''

Naomi Woerlen, Economics and Mathematics BSc (Industrial)

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

If the most common grade accepted is higher than our entry requirements, this is due to the attainment of our applicants. If you have been made an offer and you meet or exceed the grades of your offer, you will be accepted.

If grades lower than our entry requirements have been accepted, in most cases this is because we operate contextual admissions as part of our decision making, which considers factors beyond grades. For more information about contextual admissions, please visit our website.
