Course summary

Songwriting, Performance and Music Production is a creative, future-focused course for musicians who want to develop their craft across songwriting, live performance and contemporary production. You’ll explore the full process of making new music — from generating ideas and shaping your sound to arranging, recording and performing — within a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation and artistic development.

As part of our internationally recognised Performing Arts suite, you’ll learn through hands-on workshops, masterclasses and project-based work, supported by staff with extensive professional experience. You’ll build skills across live performance, studio recording, composition, arranging and production, while collaborating with performers, engineers and creatives across the wider School to mirror real-world music practice.

You’ll have access to outstanding facilities, including writing rooms, rehearsal spaces, synthesiser suites, Dolby Atmos studios and fully equipped recording studios, with open access to support your creative development. Huddersfield’s vibrant music community also offers opportunities to perform, join ensembles and experience world-leading festivals and events, helping you build confidence, versatility and a strong creative voice.
