This course will give you the knowledge and skills to blend engineering design with sustainability principles. You'll then apply these in modern manufacturing contexts.
It focuses on the development of advanced skills in:
**Product design**
- Sustainable materials selection
- Lifecycle assessment
- Digital engineering.
- Key areas of study include:
**Eco-design**
- Circular economy strategies
- Low-carbon manufacturing
- Additive manufacturing
- Data-informed design optimisation
The course addresses a critical need in modern industry. This is the transition towards environmentally responsible and resource-efficient engineering systems. You'll learn to test and improve designs by considering environmental impact, cost, performance, and regulatory constraints. Throughout the course, you'll strengthen your analytical thinking and practical problem solving skills. You'll do this through applied projects and industry-relevant case studies.
You'll benefit from a research-informed teaching environment. In particular, in areas such as AI for materials, advanced manufacturing, and net-zero production. Access to specialist labs and links with industry ensure that your learning aligns with current practice.
The course supports progression towards professional registration. This includes Incorporated Engineer and Chartered Engineer status, subject to further experience.
When you graduate, you'll be ready for a career in sustainable product design or manufacturing engineering. You could also take on environmental and innovation-led roles across multiple sectors.
The typical entry requirement is successful completion of one of the following:
HND or Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or an equivalent qualification in a related subject
240 credits or equivalent of a recognised UK undergraduate award in a relevant subject.
We also require GCSE grade C (numerical grade 4) or above in math's and English language.
There are a range of qualifications that would satisfy the entry requirements and we'll consider each application individually.
