Course summary

Electronic and electrical engineers invent and create the technology that typifies today's high-tech society, from devices and systems that monitor our health and wellbeing to global communications networks and renewable electric energy. The BEng gives a broad education in the mathematics, science and engineering that underpins this subject.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 39 points

A score of 19 points in three higher level subjects including grade 7 in Mathematics and preferably Physics, with no score lower than 5. The programme will accept either 'Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches' or 'Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation' at higher level. 'Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches' is preferred. WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - Not accepted

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - Not accepted

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D2, D3, D3

D2,D3,D3 in three Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subjects, including D2 in Mathematics plus either Physics or Further Mathematics preferred. For students not offering both Physics and Further Mathematics then Biology, Chemistry, Design and Technology or Electronics are preferred as the third subject.

GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade C or 4.

Admission tests
Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT)
ESAT Admissions Test The registration deadline is 19 December 2025. For the 2026 cycle, alongside the UCAS application, UCL will require all applicants to sit the ESAT (The Engineering and Science Admissions Test) run by University Admissions Tests UK. Applicants will be required to take Maths 1 and any two out of Physics, Maths 2, Chemistry and Biology paper from ESAT. There will be an entry fee for the test.
