Keen to pursue a career within sixth forms or Further Education colleges? Or perhaps you see yourself within adult education or informal education roles.
The course focuses on training to teach within the lifelong learning (post-14) sector (comprising offender learning, further education, adult education, training organisations and adult community learning to name just a few).
Lifelong Learning Pre-service is open to anyone; you don’t need previous teaching experience. Instead, you’ll require:
• an industry skill [a minimum Level 3 qualification in your specialist area].
• an appropriate entry qualification
• a passion for teaching and training others.
Why Study Lifelong Learning Cert Ed pre-service?
You can choose to study for one year full-time – and upon successful completion of the course – you’ll be eligible to proceed to gain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. This is following a process of professional formation through the Society for Education and Training. QTLS is the full professional status for teachers in the Lifelong Learning sector.
You’ll focus on your subject specialist area, alongside general teaching in the lifelong learning sector. You can also secure a placement with one of our partnership institutions, where you’ll:
• observe experienced teachers
• gain practical hands-on experience
• benefit from one-to-one mentoring.
You can access our professional and academic network on this teacher training course. Following completion, 91.3 per cent† of postgraduates in the School of Business, Education and Law are in work and/or further study within 15 months of graduating.
You may apply for a teaching role in the FE and Skills sector, which consists of a range of provider types.
