Course summary

We are a top 5 UK modern university for Sociology in the Complete University Guide 2025.

Our course allows you to combine the study of psychology with sociology. Examine, investigate and understand human life and experiences while developing a detailed understanding of the social world, the complexities of human relationships and social forces.

The course is made up of around 75% psychology and 25% sociology.

This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society and provides eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership, the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

In second year, students do have the option of undertaking 'Volunteering and Employability'. This can include an element of work placement..

We have a 87% student satisfaction rate for our Sociology courses and 100% for our Psychology courses (National Student Survey, 2024).

Minimum grades DMM (Distinction, Merit, Merit) preferably in a related subject. If not in a related subject, we will consider applications where GCSE English has been achieved at grade B/5 or above.

GCSE grade C/4 in Maths.

Access to HE Diploma
D: 12 credits M: 33 credits

Pass Access to HE Diploma in a related subject with 45 credits overall, with minimum 33 credits at grade Merit & 12 credits at grade Distinction preferably including English or a Literary subject* at Level 3. If a literary subject is not studied at Level 3, English must be studied at Level 2. Maths also required at Level 2.

Preferably including English or a Literary Subject*. If no literary subject is achieved at Higher, we will consider applications where National 5 English has been achieved at grade B or above.

Award of Diploma with 28 points overall with three HL subjects at grades 6, 5, 4, preferably including English or a Literary subject* at minimum grade 5. If no literary subject is achieved at HL, English must be achieved at SL grade 5.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

Grades H2, H2, H3, H3 at Higher Level preferably including English or a Literary subject*. If no literary subject is achieved at Higher Level, English must be achieved at grade O3 or above.

Grade O4 at Ordinary Level in Maths.
