Course summary

Our PGCE Secondary Religion, Values, and Ethics (RVE) and Religious Studies course is designed to prepare you for a meaningful career in teaching these critical subjects.

As part of our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and teach RVE and Religious Studies at the secondary level.

You will explore creative teaching methods that engage students with key topics, such as world religions, ethical issues, and philosophical questions. The course focuses on fostering critical thinking and open-minded discussions, helping students understand different perspectives and develop empathy.

School placements in diverse settings, including urban, rural, and Welsh-medium schools, will provide you with valuable teaching experience and a broad understanding of educational environments. These placements will allow you to apply your learning in real classrooms, helping you to refine your teaching techniques and gain confidence in delivering lessons.

In addition to subject-specific training, you will develop transferable skills, such as classroom management, assessment strategies, and supporting students with diverse needs. Mentor support throughout the course will ensure you receive valuable guidance as you grow as an educator.

By the end of the programme, you will be ready to inspire thoughtful and respectful discussions in your classroom, helping students engage with the world’s diverse beliefs and values.
