Whether you see yourself as a personal trainer, helping individuals on a one-to-one basis, leading a class of pupils in their regular sports lessons at school, or working as part of a team in a workplace, there are numerous opportunities in this field.
Maybe you would like to channel your personal interest in sports into teaching, or perhaps the science of how the human body interests you, and you would like to train as a sports psychologist or physiotherapist? Alternatively, you could become a sports professional yourself, developing your interest in sports into a career. Or you might set up your own sports management company, advising sportspeople on how to build and manage their careers and maximise their earning potential.
Other career options include being a sports journalist, a sports representative at a holiday centre, a lifeguard at a swimming pool or an assistant at a leisure centre.
Sport and fitness skills also include nutrition which has never been more topical as people are looking for new and effective ways to stay fit and healthy. Nutritionists work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, clinics, and as private consultants.
This course is for students who would like to work at degree-level to further their professional qualification in the sport and fitness industry.
The UK sports industry is worth £24 billion and supports nearly a million jobs and there are plenty of exciting career routes and opportunities. Students on our HND in Sport are being developed for roles in sports coaching and sports development where they will go on to work for private organisations, or in local government.
Sports science opens doors to careers based on physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. In this course, you will learn about the sports and leisure industry, with a focus on sports coaching, lifestyle and well-being, nutrition, training and fitness, and physical education.
Students will have full use of the Sports Hall and Gym facilities which hold a wide range of equipment. Students can also visit/use Aylestone Park Football Club and Leicester University Sports Hall.
