Course summary

The course is studio led and you will be given time and guidance to develop your own work and areas of interest. It focuses on a broad range of fine art practice and you will learn a number of skills that are required to work in the art and design industry. Academic staff are practicing artists with national and international profiles. Their knowledge and experience is utilised to teach and demonstrate a number of specialisms including Painting and Printmaking.

All modules involve an element of contextual study and encourage artists research, reflection and analysis. Alongside core studies, you are encouraged to engage with the local community and you are provided with opportunities to go for commissions and exhibitions, ensuring that you gain valuable experience, for example, a piece of permanent or temporary public art. This is great for your CV and helps to boost your employability.

Progression Opportunities - As an HND is a stand-alone higher education qualification, many graduating students apply to top up their qualification to BA Hons Degree. Upon completion you may seek employment in a variety of Graphic Design related roles. We have a long standing and successful progression pathway with Sunderland University, who take our students onto their 3rd year Graphic Design degree programme.
