Course summary

Prepare for a career in civil engineering through hands-on projects, industry-standard tools and global experiences. Develop practical skills for infrastructure, sustainability and consultancy roles, with progression opportunities. This course combines the development of technical, practical and managerial skills necessary to analyse, design and manage solutions for innovative and complex engineering problems as a basis for future leadership in the civil engineering profession.

Combine theory with hands-on learning, industry-standard tools and real-world projects. Our career-focused civil engineering degree aims to prepare you for diverse roles in infrastructure, sustainability and engineering consultancy, with opportunities to progress to BEng and MEng pathways (subject to meeting progression requirements).

  • Work on real-world, simulated, projects, industry-standard tools and practical experiences in a simulated construction environment.

  • Gain key skills in structural design, construction materials and infrastructure planning.

  • You will have opportunities to draw on real-life case studies provided by companies such as Arcadis, CGL, Crossrail and Galliford Try.

  • You will have access to industry-standard software, widely used by design and consulting engineers.

  • Significant moments will be presented to apply for industrial placements* at companies, which have previously included: Atkins, Balfour Beatty, Interserve, Morgan Sindall, Mott MacDonald, Severn Trent Water and Warwickshire County Council.

  • Several optional modules available at level six to allow you to tailor courses to your specific interests. You can select from Computational Methods in Civil Engineering, Engineering Hydrology, Transport Infrastructure, Strategic Construction Project Management and Structural Design.

  • Group project work with other students from other Construction and Environment related courses such as Quantity Surveying, Architectural Technology and Geography to develop attributes and skills required in a multi-disciplinary team.
