The Foundation Degree in Scenic Construction is a two-year programmer. The programme has been developed in response to the acute shortage of suitably qualified entry-level technicians to build sets for the rapidly expanding Theatre, Film and Television industries in Wales and beyond.
Key Features:
Technical Skills - including both metal fabrication and carpentry.
Industry Practice - develop an insight into the theatre & television industry
Professional Placements across the two years, either at RWCMD’s workshop & theatres or with industry partners
Industry Partners and supporters include- Bay Productions, Cardiff Theatrical Services, Bad Wolf (4Wood) & Wild Creations
Top up Degree - the option to top up to BA (Hons) Design for Performance.

Please note that International graduates of Foundation Degrees are not at present (subject to UK Government immigration policies) eligible for the United Kingdom’s Graduate Route visa (post-study employment). Graduates of Foundation Degrees are eligible to proceed to a further year of study for a BA (Hons) degree and may subsequently apply for the Graduate Route Visa (subject to UK Government immigration policies).
Students should normally be working towards their Level 3 or equivalent qualifications although the College will consider applications from people over the age of 18 with relevant skills and/or experience in craft, design and technology. We recommend that you use the personal statement on your application form to demonstrate your interest in theatre/film/TV and any relevant experience. Final selection will be made on the basis of an interview.
