About this course
Study Ancient History and History to discover global views on ancient, medieval and modern history with this joint honours ancient history and history degree. Learn how ancient civilisations inspired modern society and examine historical empires and cultures. You'll look at the different ways historians have approached the past, and study different periods in ancient, medieval, early modern, and modern history. You'll cover the development of historical debates, ways of imagining the past, and topics ranging from ancient history to the war on terror.
This degree will equip you with a range of employability skills. This includes the required skill set for a range of future careers, further study, or starting your own business. Graduates commonly work in a range of organisations or sectors including: local council libraries, universities, schools, colleges, museums, galleries, publishing, media groups, local government, heritage service providers, national government, the police, law firms, hospitality, and tourism.

Receive a strong foundation in both Ancient History and History, and choose from a wide range of topics covering ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome through to the medieval and early modern periods, all the way up to the modern day.
Access to digital humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting-edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audio-visual centre.
Explore document collections, including the Wellington, Palmerston and Mountbatten papers, and the Parkes archive, one of the largest Jewish documentation centres in Europe.
Spend a year abroad at a university in Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea or Australia in your third year.
