Course summary

This course is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the TV and Film industries. Units focus on the creative and technical aspects of TV and film. When undertaking practical assessments you are expected to perform to an industry standard and use your own initiative to research required topics. The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the exciting world of TV and Film and its related industries such as audio production, broadcast, marketing and PR. You will also undertake many industry related enrichment visits such as post production houses, film and TV sets and tours to enhance your learning experience.

Learners who achieve the HND can top-up to a full degree in TV, film production, broadcast or other relevant subject area.

Modules

Specialist units will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in TV and film production and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. They include: HNC (Year One) - Individual Project (Pearson Set); Creative Media Industry; Professional Practise; Film and Television Practises (Industry); Film Studies (Film Theory); Light and Sound (Production Design); Film and Video Editing (Post Production); Audio Technologies (Post Production); and Field Trips and Industry Talks. HND (Year Two) - Collaborative Project (Pearson Set); Personal Professional Development; Advanced Film Production Studies; Multi-Camera Production; Script-writing for Film and Television; Documentary; and Sound for Media Products. There is also the opportunity for suitable students to undertake work experience with local businesses and companies. This is an exciting opportunity to enhance your portfolio and gain creative experience in the development of commercial products and to develop content for external clients as part of work experience and portfolio building.

Assessment method

This is a full-time course over two years. A range of assessment methods are used including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs.

To have passed a HNC in a related subject and to hold GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above in English Language and maths.

UAL Level 3 qualifications are also accepted for admission to this course.

Mature students can apply with no formal qualifications but with a minimum of three years relevant industry experience.
