Course summary

Our MSc in Mathematics and Computing for Finance is designed to meet the demand for specially trained mathematicians in the world’s finance and insurance industries. These areas make particular use of probability theory, stochastic processes and stochastic analysis in areas such as the pricing of financial derivatives or the quantification of risk.

Through this degree you will study different elements of mathematics and computing, and their application to problems from finance. You will then undertake a dissertation in an area of financial mathematics through which you will develop your research, project management, and written communication skills. Upon graduation you will be a knowledgeable and specialised mathematician with proven skills to independently deliver a substantial project, and the potential to make a big difference in any organisation.

In the first part of the course you study a wide range of modules in mathematical finance and related topics. In the second part you complete your significant dissertation project.

Over the course of your studies you will be assessed by a combination of written examinations, coursework and the dissertation. Your studies will be supported by facilities including the main university library which contains an extensive collection of mathematics resources, as well as Digital Services.
