This course is for those aspiring to or currently working in childcare, early years education, or related fields. It suits nursery workers, teaching assistants, career changers, and those aiming for further study in teaching or special education. The course combines academic learning with practical experience, helping
professionals advance their careers.
This course immerses you in an educational environment, deepening your understanding of how children and young people learn across
different contexts. Through inquiry, discussion, and research, you’ll connect theory to practice, exploring child development from
psychological, sociological, and policy perspectives. The practical approach enables you to apply new knowledge directly to your work, covering areas such as cognition, language development, and learning behaviour. You’ll also develop research skills to undertake an independent study under expert guidance.
This course will provide opportunities:
to progress to the next level of study: 1 year to convert your Foundation Degree to a BSc (Hons) Childhood Studies
For career pathways including: Nurse, Nursery Nurse, Health Visitor, Early Years Educator, Nursery Worker in the Public or Independent Sectors, Social Worker and roles in the youth justice and law enforcement sectors.
The course content includes: Applying Theory to Children and Young People's Holistic Development, Leadership and Inclusion within Child Centred Practice, Leading Practice in Children and Young People's Services, Research with Children and Young People, Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing, - Safeguarding Children and Young People, Curriculum Matters, Play and Leisure
and Advanced Practice in Children and Young People’s Service.
You will have to complete presentations and written assignments as you progress through the programme. One module requires a practical assessment.
