Engineers are involved in a number of design and development activities, and this course makes you a well-rounded Engineer able to exercise leadership, initiative, personal responsibility and decision-making in complex and unpredictable situations. This course offers the option to specialise in Systems or Design.

The course combines our previous courses BEng/MEng Mechanical Systems Engineering and BEng/MEng Computer-Aided Mechanical Engineering to bring you the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to excel as a graduate in the mechanical engineering field.

It is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Graduate prospects

Graduates of the previous courses have found success in a variety of local, national, and international industries and consultancies, such as mechanical, aerospace, electronics, offshore, local authority, manufacturing and building services. They are now employed by companies like Howden, Scottish Power and Scotrail.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MMM

Year 1: BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma MMM in Engineering/Technology subject. Must include Maths

Access to HE Diploma - M: 45 credits

60 credits overall with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit in a relevant Engineering subject

Scottish Higher - BBCC

including Maths plus a Science or Technology subject

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 26 points

including Maths plus a Science or Technology subject

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H3, H3, H3, H3

including Maths plus a Science or Technology subject

Scottish HND - Not accepted

Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) - Pass

Accepted as equivalent to one Higher at grade B as part of the overall grade profile of Highers required for entry. Any essential subjects at Higher should still be achieved in addition to the Foundation Apprenticeship.

T Level - Pass (C and above)

Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control; Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing; Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing

For direct entry applications, please apply to BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering. Students can transfer to MEng course subject to results at the end of Year 4.
