Course summary

If you are dreaming of performing in the West End, or on tour, you will join thousands working in the performing arts industry in the UK. Jobs as dancers, actors and singers are available across a wide range of settings including tv, film, regional theatres, theme parks, cruise ships, corporate sectors as well as in schools. Our HNC in Performing Arts (acting) will equip you with the skills to become a freelance performance practitioner with a focus on triple threat performing skills. Projects will include taking shows on tour and delivering workshops at venues across Yorkshire. Develop your professional practice and improve your movement, acting and singing skills while learning about creative arts research, workshop leadership and how to create exciting immersive performances.

The nationally recognised HNC Performing Arts course is aimed at those with experience and/or genuine interest in acting and performance. It will allow you to develop your skills in voice, movement, acting and stagecraft. Taking part in performances in our versatile performing arts studio as well as in the community, you will work cooperatively in teams experiencing opportunities for leadership and take part in innovative and creative approaches to work in rehearsal and performance.

You will be taught through a combination of lectures and practical activities that help to embed learning and appeal to a variety of learning styles. Your learning will be supported by Teams - an on-line electronic resource platform managed by your module tutors, by the excellent LRC at the Aireville Campus in addition to the College’s specialist support centre.

You will need to undertake significant independent study outside of taught sessions. Students will spend the equivalent of 7 hours per week in college, with informative lectures, workshops and tutorials, however, there will be an expectation that students will spend the double amount of time, developing, ideas, techniques and processes outside formal college time. This is to say that the course will require significant independent study.
