Course summary
Our joint programmes allow you to study law alongside another academic discipline. Over four years of study you will take a range of courses from both the Law School and the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.
The joint LLB Law and Spanish aims to promote advanced knowledge and understanding of the theory, concepts and rules of law. It also gives you the opportunity to gain a professional standard of Spanish.
In addition to intensive language training, you will explore Spanish-language literature, film, poetry, and theatre from around the world in their historical context. You will learn how to discern different varieties and registers of Spanish and gain crucial intercultural competencies.
The programme includes a compulsory year abroad in Year 3 at an institution which teaches in Spanish. This offers you the chance to have a culturally immersive experience in another country while also developing your legal and language skills.

Standard Qualification requirements
UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A*A*A - A*AA. Required subjects: A levels: English Literature, English Language or combined English at B; a language other than English at B. English Language and English Literature GCSE, both at A or 7, are accepted in place of A level English.
Scottish Higher - AAAAA
AAAAA (achievement by end of S5 preferred). BBB must be achieved in one year of S4-S5. Required subjects: Highers: English at B, at first attempt; a language other than English at B.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 42 - 37 points
from 42 points with 766 at HL to 37 points with 666 at HL. Required subjects: HL: English at 5; a language other than English at 5.
This degree programme has a subject requirement of a language other than English. You may not use your own native language to meet this requirement. English or an alternative language other than native will be acceptable. We normally make offers to the highest qualified applicants. If competition for places is high this may mean that offers will only be made to applicants who are predicted, or who have achieved, above the single set of grades or the upper grade level in a range. Any conditional offer made may require you to achieve grades above the upper grade level. Therefore, achieving the top of our standard entry requirements does not guarantee a place on the relevant degree.

Regardless of your nationality or country of residence, you must demonstrate a level of English language competency at a level that will enable you to succeed in your studies. For SQA, GCSE and IB students, unless a higher level is specified in the stated entry requirements, a pass is required in English at the following grades or higher: SQA National 5 at C; SQA Standard Grade at 3; SQA Intermediate 1 at A; SQA Intermediate 2 at C; GCSE/IGSCE at C or 4; Level 2 Certificate Grade C or IB Standard Level at 5 (English ab initio is not accepted for entry). Unless you are a national of a majority English speaking country, your English language qualification must be no more than three and a half years old from the start of the month in which the degree you are applying to study begins. If you are using an IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL or Trinity ISE test, it must be no more than two years old on the first of the month in which the degree begins, regardless of your nationality.

Additional fee information
Scotland - Scottish students must apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for payment of their tuition fees.
England/Wales/Northern Ireland - The Rest of UK (RUK) students commencing or continuing their studies in September 2026, the tuition fees will be £9,790. This is subject to Parliamentary approval and is an increase of £255 on the fee rate for academic year 2025-2026.
EU On 9th July 2020 the decision was made by the Scottish Government to end free university tuition for European Union (EU) students starting in 2021-22. Funding policy for EU nationals and associated groups starting a course of study in academic year 2022-23 or later will be in line with international fees.
Full time international and EU students will pay a fixed annual fee rate for the duration of their programme
