Our Fire and Rescue Leadership BA (Hons) course has been designed for those who want to join the fire service or understand how it operates.
Developed alongside Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MaWWFRS) and is the first programme of its kind in the UK.
Learning both on campus at UWTSD Swansea Waterfront and at the MaWWFRS training centre in Earlswood, near Swansea, this hands-on course has a strong focus on real-world learning.
Throughout the course, you’ll undertake practical training placements as Earlswood Fire Service Training Centre near Swansea, undertaking robust training that is part of the firefighter national training programme. Here, you’ll have access to specialist trainers and facilities that are normally only open to fire service staff. This course is designed to prepare you for leadership roles in the fire service preparing you with the knowledge and skills for a full-time role.
At the same time, you will follow the fire service leadership framework in the classroom, studying areas including leadership, equality, government, strategic management, and research methods. The knowledge and skills gained here will help to prepare you for leadership jobs across a range of public service role in the future.
From the start, you will also have the opportunity to become a paid on-call firefighter for a minimum of one shift per week. You’ll be part of a team, responding to real emergencies and learning how to stay calm under pressure.
As part of the course, you will also work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Emergency Fire and Rescue Services, nationally accredited by Skills for Justice.
This degree is a unique chance to gain real experience, build confidence, and make a difference in the community.
