Develop a wide range of advanced sound design techniques for both stage and screen in our training that combines expert tuition with state-of-the-art recording studios and performance spaces.
Led by practitioners at the forefront of the industry, this course will equip you with the skills you need to create immersive, interactive sound experiences that really resonate with audiences. You’ll be pushed to explore the stylistic boundaries of contemporary sound design. Using our industry standard equipment and sound studios, you’ll develop advanced skills and approaches in recording, mixing and special effects that you can apply to any visual media.
Collaboration is at the heart of this course. You’ll spend a lot of your time working with students from both the BA and MA Stage Management technical cohorts. In your RWCMD placements or on those with our industry partners, you’ll get to learn about different creative disciplines and get a real feel for what it’s like to be a member of a production support team – all in readiness for life after graduation.
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
Only one specialism is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
The following entry points are available for this course:
Entry requirements usually include a degree or equivalent qualification in an art and design related subject.
Selection is made on the basis of an interview and portfolio presentation.
We may consider applications from people without formal qualifications, if they have an exceptional level of practical ability and suitable portfolio content.
