Why study this course?
This programme will provide you with the skills to enable you to meet changing circumstances, whether these arise from a shift in your own sphere of employment, promotion to supervisory or management roles or from general changes in construction practices and the information technology environment.
Industry related projects will help develop skills like teamwork, planning, problem solving and communication, all of which you may need in the work place. HNC/HND courses are well recognised by employers and they will see that you have the technical skills and knowledge to perform related roles within their business.
About the course
This HND Construction course is a recognised Higher Education qualification. Students who complete this qualification successfully, may progress to the Level 5. This programme is delivered using a hybrid learning approach. Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals are designed to help students secure the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the workplace. They represent the latest in professional standards and provide opportunities for students to develop skills for work, for example by undertaking a group project, or responding to a client brief.

• Construction Site Management - understanding site operations: You’ll gain the ability to manage day-to-day operations on a construction site, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
• Building Technology - knowledge of modern and traditional construction methods and materials, and how they are used in different types of projects.
• Technical Drawing and Design - proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings and technical blueprints.
• Construction Law and Contracts - knowledge of construction law, including contract types, legal obligations, and dispute resolution procedures
• Environmental and Sustainability Practices - knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability principles, including energy-efficient building techniques, water conservation strategies, and waste management practices.
• Construction Materials - a deep understanding of construction materials (e.g., concrete, steel, timber) and their properties, strengths, and applications in building structures.
• Project Management - knowledge of the principles of project management, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation using tools like Gantt charts or Critical Path Method (CPM).

Where will it take me?

Entry requirements and year of entry are subject to the University.
