Course summary

This foundation year programme will prepare you for your future accounting and finance studies. You will gain the confidence and abilities needed to continue your education and go on to have a successful career in accountancy, finance, banking, insurance or general management positions.

Modules

Your foundation year will give you a grounding in accounting and finance, preparing you for your future studies. As the course progresses, you will have the chance to choose modules to suit your desired studies.

Following completion of your foundation year, you will build the foundation of financial knowledge that will be developed upon throughout the remainder of the course. You will develop other skills that are useful in the fast-paced world of finance and beyond. The second year is all about exploring more specialised theories and learning skills that will be transferable across multiple business functions. By your final year, you will develop the skills needed for responsible and ethical leadership and understand how to think strategically.

/ Foundation Year: Foundations of Business; IT for Accountants; Financial Accounting for Business; Cost and Management Accounting for Business; Academic and Personal Skills; Employability for Life.

/ Year 1: Fundamentals of Financial Accounting; Contemporary Practices in Accounting and Finance; Digital and Quantitative Skills; Fundamentals of Management Accounting; Business Economics; Governance, Ethics and the Legal and Regulatory Environment

Assessment method

Through a combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials, using learning activities such as business simulations, you will develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that you'll need when you begin working. Our academics are experts in their field and work closely with industry to ensure that our courses reflect the needs of businesses.

We use different assessment techniques in different modules and try to ensure all assessments reflect the types of work you will do after graduating. This may include portfolio work, multiple choice questions, group reports and problem-solving questions.
