Our course provides a comprehensive understanding of the National Curriculum and covers key stages one and two. You will engage in Initial Teacher Training (ITT) that meets the latest DfE curriculum requirements, ensuring you are fully prepared for the demands of the teaching profession. On this course, you will develop essential professional attributes that are crucial for a thriving teaching career.

The programme includes a mix of theoretical and practical learning experiences. You will explore core professional issues such as assessment, behaviour management, lesson planning, and addressing special educational needs. The course is structured around theories and research that underpin child development, well-being and learning from 0-19 years and how these relate to the role of the professional teacher.

By your final year, you will be ready to take on significant teaching responsibilities, preparing you to become a confident teacher who can handle diverse classroom challenges.

In your first year, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of Primary Education, including child development, the curriculum framework, and effective classroom management. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the importance of learning through a child-led, experiential approach. In addition, you will understand the context of curriculum development as well as identify how communities, families and schools influence teaching and learning.

The programme design provides the opportunity for assessments to be closely related to classroom practice and draw upon evidence gained from personal experience. This approach further establishes the links between intellectual and experiential learning.

For example, students will be required to design, conduct, evaluate and share a close-to-practice research project which will directly impact on learners. Whenever possible, assignments will be submitted and marked electronically to facilitate timely and effective feedback.

Assessment components include written assignments, a digital poster, portfolios, an individual video and a research project.
